This week I’m focusing on a classic medical strain here in Southern California for the Sativa lovers, the ones who like the upbeat, more energetic and cerebral strains of herb… this one is for you – Trainwreck.

This strain has an aroma that’s as notable as it’s name. The smell is so distinct that it’s one of the few strains that even my medicore sense of smell can identify immediately… I call it a “medicinal smell” – like strong lemon-lime cleaner, but in a good way.

I have always found the effect is very upbeat and active, and at one time (Summer of 2008) it was my herb-of-choice.

Here’s some information about Trainwreck

Very much renowned for its potency. It is said to contain an incredible amount of THC. The smell is already strong, and when you squeeze it the smell makes your eyes water. The weed is easily ground up, and a little too sticky for breaking up by hand. Trainwreck has a unique smell that it hard to describe. It’s like Kush, and Skunk, but with a sweet tang to it, like freshly cut cedar.

It lights up fast, and burns slightly quicker than you would prefer, and gives you an extremely thick hit. Almost always a cougher. The name trainwreck come from the fact that when you smoke this weed your face feels like it was hit by a train. It’s a very powerful Sativa.

We got in a new strain yesterday that is really nice called Ice Cream.

A subjective and informal review from Jon, onehumanbeing

This is a 60% Indica 40% Sativa hybrid that is not only delightful to look at and smell, but has an active and cerebral high with a positive feel.

Good medicine for many of the symptoms of the depression I’ve been going through these last few weeks.

Keep this one on the shopping list…

Information about Ice Cream

Type: Indica/Sativa (60/40)
Flowering time: 55-60 days indoors. Outdoors, early October (n.L.)
Yield: 500 grams per m2 indoors. Outdoors 500+ grams per plant
Environment: Indoors. Outdoors between 50º n.L. and 50º s.L..
Effect /Buzz: Trippy, equal head and body
Smell/Taste: Creamy vanilla with undertones of skunk and pine
THC: 15-18%

Ice Cream expresses a diversity of phenotypes, all of them producing a good, tasty smoke. The common theme is extreme rapid growth and vitality, with healthy large dark green leaves and profuse resin production. Another common theme is a smooth, creamy taste that reminds of ice cream.

All Ice Cream plants give out copious amounts of trichomes, sometimes exhibiting an extremely tight formation of army-style rows of large resin heads. Ice Cream is good as a sea of green or a multi-branch plant. Ice Cream’s response tendencies are sports car like, it’s the Ferrari among the plants.

The buds themselves are white and frosty, with a hint of vanilla. The smoke is smooth, with faint undertones of skunk and pine. For both gardeners and tokers, Ice Cream offers vigor and diversity under a smooth vanilla coating.

Huska Puss Kush?

Huska Puss Kush is an elite hybrid with a funny name, a great kush smell and taste, and upbeat OG Kush aftertones.

It is a cross of Super Skunk #1 and Master OG (which is a cross of Master Kush and OG Kush) and I have no idea where the name came from… I’ll try and find out some information about that.

My Subjective and Informal Review by Jon, onehumanbeing

I found it to have a nice and “fuzzy” feeling kind of body comfort without putting me to sleep, but rather, into a pleasant state of alert engagement – very good for conversations and working on projects that require your attention.

Genetic Background

Super Skunk #1

This plant is especially developed for Skunk lovers. Super skunk is a beefy skunk #1. We have crossed our best Skunks to their Afghani ancestors. Brush against this plant and the room becomes immediately filled with powerful Skunk aroma. It’s famous for it’s potent flavor and aromatic high. Despite the smell a very pleasant high with a little more body to it than the Skunk #1. One of the winners of the 1990 High Times Harvest Festival where it clearly defeated Skunk #1

source: http://www.marijuanastrains.com/superskunk.html

Master OG

Master Kush is a cross of Hindu Kush and and Skunk and Master OG takes that blend and crosses it with OG Kush (which we recently wrote about…) to create the strain we know as Master OG.

This is an upgraded strain of our valued former Afghan/Skunk. We improved the variety in 1997. The taste is softer than before and we managed to improve on yield. The Afghani (Mazar-i-Shariff) part is a very short Christmas tree-like cannabis plant, 100% Indica and very resinous. The F1-cross with Skunk #1 gives the variety a bigger yield and better taste. Very good “up” high. As both parents are very consistent, the offspring are very consistent too.

This Afghan/Skunk was produced by Dutch Passion with the main goals being to improve taste and yield all while maintaining a THC percentage near 20%. After being reworked in 97 Mazar came in second at the Cannabis Cup in 99.

The taste is perfume/pine/floral/incense, in that order. I don’t know why but I associate her taste and smell as being feminine, I think it has something to do with her pink and purple hues. And her smell is nothing I would naturally associate with cannabis. Even in flower her buds smell more like something you would smell in a florist shop rather than a skunks den. The yield is better than average as well. This plant grows like a pole with minimal side branching, which makes this plant ideal for SOG techniques. The unassuming smell and yield make this strain ideal for commercial purposes. What also makes this bud appealing is it’s jar appeal. Not as pretty as some, but it has an exotic look to it.

The high is pretty strong, but I find that it lacks character. I always get ripped off of her but, for some reason I always feel unsatisfied. Even after a large sized joint, even though I might be stoned to the bone, I feel like I need something else. DP says that this strain is up close to 20%, but that sounds a little high for what I have here. If anything I would say Mazar is a bit milder than most strains I’ve tried. Women absolutely love this strain. I have yet to find a selection that the ladies like more. Maybe it is the ’feminine’ smell and taste, or maybe it is because it is milder than most. Either way I am a happy camper :) So if you have any lady tokers in your life that you would like to treat. Grow em some Mazar and they will love you forever!!!

As you can see in the pics, I have grown bushes and sog’s with good results from both. Enjoy! :)
